Time Spent Not Lost | A California Masonry Construction Legacy

IF TIME SPENT WAS TIME LOST, THIS CALIFORNIA MASONRY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY WOULD HAVE DIED WITH FRED IN 1973. LUCKY FOR US, IT DIDN’T.

RON AND SANTANA STEUDLER: STEUDLER MASONRY

Lucky for him – Ron had the opportunity to spend time with his father, Fred Steudler, Sr., during childhood, throughout his youth, and into early adulthood. In the beginning, he worked for 25 cents an hour on the job sites of the family’s California masonry construction company. But in 1973, the significance of their time together would become cherished beyond measure. His dad died unexpectedly at 57 years old.

Before his passing Fred told Ron that if he wanted to get into the trades, masonry was a great way to make a living. So Ron followed his heart and did as his mother requested. He carried on the family business at the young age of 23. Ron was smart enough to know that he still had a lot to learn. So he hired and retained many of the same top masons that had worked for his father, ultimately ensuring that his dad’s love and knowledge of masonry would live long past his death.

Ron’s only son, Santana Steudler, grew up with an early respect for his grandfather’s legacy and an appreciation for his father’s dedication to the principles the California masonry construction company was founded on in 1950. “I saw at an early age that my father had built something that was really, really special,” he said. “I’m very thankful to have a trade like this.” Ron was quick to add, “And applying this trade in this area is very good too.”

Ron and Santana are both native to the Monterey Peninsula and expressed shared gratitude for the business environment and world-class golf courses. In fact, Santana starred in golf through high school and college and went on to tour with the Canadian Professional Golf Association before joining his father in business. Today, Ron appreciates Santana’s youthful energy in business and golf, sometimes even playing a few rounds with their high-profile clients.

The Steudlers consider themselves lucky to be doing their trade in that area. Their attitude of gratitude is infectious – and our stone is lucky to be a part of that.
